watch the full episode now!

The Shop Jersey Shore Podcast has officially launched! In our very first episode, host Lisa Mazzuca sits down with the energetic and inspiring Dan “The Bug Man” Latini, owner of Dan Can Home Services, to hear how a career pivot during the pandemic turned into a thriving pest control business built on heart, hustle, and community values.

Bit by the Bug: Dan’s Unlikely Journey into Pest Control

Before becoming one of the most recognized names in local pest control, Dan held jobs in restaurant management, office operations, roadside assistance, and even crime scene cleanup. But it wasn’t until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic—when caring for his family and facing a disrupted job market—that Dan found himself starting from scratch in a completely new field: pest control.

“I started with no experience,” he shares. “But I got bit by the science bug—literally and figuratively—and fell in love with the work.”

Dan’s honesty, energy, and dedication shine throughout the episode as he explains how a tough moment turned into a calling.

Why Dan Started His Own Company

After gaining experience working for two of the “big three” national pest control companies, Dan decided it was time to break away. Frustrated by impersonal service and upsell tactics, he launched Dan Can Home Services with a commitment to doing things differently.

“I offer free advice to anyone who asks. It might not be the smartest business tactic, but I believe in pride over profit. I want to go home knowing I helped someone, not just made a sale.”

His approach? No contracts. No pressure. Just solid, science-based service with a personal touch.

Who Dan Serves—and How

Dan serves both residential and commercial clients across Ocean, Monmouth, Mercer, Burlington, and parts of Camden County, NJ. While his services cover a wide range of pest problems, he especially enjoys helping restaurants and food service clients stay clean and compliant thanks to his deep background in food safety.

“I see myself as a partner,” Dan explains. “I’ll do my part, but I also educate my clients. If we work together, the results are so much better.”

And for both home and business owners, he emphasizes honesty and transparency. Every agreement clearly spells out what to expect—and nothing is locked in.

Giving Back to the Community

Dan is not only a business owner—he’s a dedicated community leader. He serves on the board of the Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce, is actively involved with 21 Plus, a nonprofit that supports individuals with developmental disabilities, and proudly partners with the JBJ Soul Kitchen.

“I come from humble beginnings, so giving back is close to my heart. Whether it’s sponsoring events, supporting local nonprofits, or just doing what I can—I try to show up and do the right thing.”
